"Most beds sleep up to six cats. Ten cats without the owner." ~ Stephen Baker
Exhibit A shows the typical sleeping pattern of sisters, Chloe and Clover. They come in from their sleeping porch in the morning, eat and head to my room. The place at the head of the bed, next to the pillows officially belongs to them, although I have never seen any "reserved" signs posted. A bit of mutual grooming, rarely a bit of "catty" fussing and then intertwine for sleep.

Exhibit B. Chloe and Clover (right) with Scarlett and Rhett (left)

This picture is becoming more common. Rhett and Scarlett slept together as kittens and young cats but fell out of the habit. It might have had something to do with Rhett's deviant behavior when he was a year old. Scarlett has often not been able to get along with anyone and preferred to sleep in a person's lap or on the armrest of an easy chair. Now they cuddle more and more. Yes, Rhett jumps on her and bites her, generally irritating her; having altercations more often than the other pair. But, he is a brother after all. Now for the really strange situation.

Exhibit C. Willow sleeping with the "gang".

I was sitting at my computer, minding my own business, when I spied this out of the corner of my eye. Willow had quietly made her way back to my room and up on the bed. There she was curled up in blissful sleep right next to Chloe. With her back towards her arch nemesis, Chloe was clueless; but Clover is awake. Why does she not tell her sister what lurks behind her? Well, she is a sister after all. This can't last long.

Exhibit D. Willow discovered!!!

Chloe rolled to bathe her back and in the blink of an eye, she moved. Now she sits looking annoyed that her favorite spot has been soiled by Willows presence. And where is Nicky? I suspect he is in Mom's room warm on her bed. Nicky doesn't do these group events.

Only one more question: "Where am I supposed to sleep now?"

These beasts will be visiting Friday's Ark, will you? Be sure to save a little time Sunday evening for Carnival of the Cats #86, this week hosted by Curiouser & Curiouser.
