Stuck
I couldn't believe this squirrel was so stupid and smart at the same time. Smart enough to get into the cage around the bird food and stupid enough to forget how he did it and get stuck. I still don't know how he got in... how do squirrels do anything.... but he definitely couldn't get out. I had to pull the spring pin that was holding the lid down and do it really quick. Really now, I don't have a hankering to be bitten by one of these things. That was no small feat as it is a really tight spring. By the time I found him here, he was already in a squirrely state (pardon the pun), panicked and frantically chewing on the metal wire. It took several tries but finally the spring came loose and he popped out of the top and off to the woods. If only that experience were imprinted on his pea sized brain... no such luck. We move the patio chairs further and further away from the bird feeder and he jumps further and further to get to the feeder.... soon we will have to catch him and sell him to a traveling squirrel circus, along with his five other cohorts.

my apolgies, but i am rolling on the floor laughing, i mean it. this is the funniest thing i have seen in a long time. i love the sell him to the circus, if you find one we have a few to donate. LOL
Poor little guy!! We caught one that had gotten into our attic a few years ago, in a Have-a Heart cage. He was more than squirrely - he was having a panic attack!!
BTW: it IS already into the 90's here today (and I just met Vicki!! Tell all about it later.)
Sandra sent me your link. Too funny. Poor little thing. :)))
Sandra sent me here too. ;) Yes, cute and funny at the same time. Plus I love Winne the Pooh!
Poor guy.
that is too funny...
They are persistent little creatures aren't they, Glad you got the picture of him before setting him free. Too funny
But now he knows that if he gets stuck you will set him free! He can go into the feeder and not have to worry. That is way too funny.
Sandra urged me to visit, great post and image you took a chance letting him out they can be quite vicious when frightened so well done.
Wow! Where there's a will, there's a way! And squirrels definitely have a will to get to our feeders. We had a squirrel get his leg caught in the bend of a heavy wire one of the feeders was hanging from. He was panicked and crying and I had no idea what we were going to be able to do to help him with him biting us. Just when I thought we might have to put him out of his misery, he broke free.
I was sent here from Sandra - what a funny story - and I know it's true - we had a genius squirrel here for awhile
. They are so cute for a pest. sandie

I have no idea how I arrived here but I'm glad I did! Really got a chuckle out of this story.
You're a good soul for rescuing him from his own stupidity. I can think of any number of people who would have found another, less altruistic path.
On second though, he IS a cutie :)
The squirrels in my yard are such thieves. I'd like to see them jailed a little like this one! http://looseleafnotes.com
Yea..been there...done that...not fun...
