"Autumn's earliest frost had givenThere was frost on the windshield this morning, although not officially. A cold wind blew all day churning up whitecaps on the ocean; it was not a good day to be out fishing in a small boat. Even the Canadian geese have made themselves scarce today. While the fall colors have reached peak in the Blue Ridge, they are still approaching here. In another week or two, these colors will be burning.
To the woods below
Hues of beauty, such as heaven
Lendeth to its bow;
And the soft breeze from the west
Scarcely broke their dreamy rest."
