Max & The Full Moon

The full moon. 11/14/05 (Click pictures for larger view) Posted by Picasa
The moon is full tonight
And hurts the eyes,
It is so definite and bright.
~ Philip Larkin (1922-1986)
Tonight the moon is full and Mars is a close traveling companion; there hanging beneath the moon a small solid light with a reddish hue. Max is barking; he seems more insistent, almost hysterical on nights with a full moon. Perhaps he more clearly sees the squirrels as they scamper through the yard to their treehouse nests on the other side of the fence; or the rabbits that nest behind the neighbor's shed. Or perhaps there is something inside him; something usually hidden, that transforms him into a creature of ancient folklore, compelled to howl at the moon! Nah, that last idea is really a bit unrealistic.
I'm afraid, sir, that I gave up my belief in goblins, witches, personal devils and werewolves at the age of six. ~ John Colton (1886-1946)

Then again, maybe I should rethink this!!! Yoooowwwwwllllllllll!!!!

Max is going to have a "howling" good time over at Friday's Ark this week and will be joining the chorus of canines featured in this week's Carnival of the Dogs, hosted by Mickey's Musings.
