Delight at Dusk

Dusk (Click picture for larger view) Posted by Picasa
"The west is broken into bars
Of orange, gold, and gray;
Gone is the sun, come are the stars,
And night infolds the day."
~ George MacDonald, "Songs of the Summer Nights"
A late summer evening just before Nyssa went to William and Mary, we found a local school yard with banks of basketball goals. She practiced her lay-ups and free throws and I watched for interesting things to photograph. Contrails criss-crossed the sky and broken clouds started to reflect the golden light of the sun as it set. The shades of orange, yellow, blue and violet were ever changing like the colors in a rotating kaleidoscope but with more subtle edges; the ever decreasing light of dusk slowly blending into darkness.

Submission for LensDay topic "dusk". (end of post)
